Venture Global To Boost Global Energy Supply With Advanced LNG Vessel Fleet

Venture Global LNG, a prominent energy provider, has recently unveiled plans for a significant expansion of its operations with the acquisition and construction of a new fleet of LNG-powered vessels. This development marks a notable advancement in the company's integration across the LNG supply chain, from natural gas transmission to liquefaction, export, and regasification. The announcement was made on March 18, 2024, highlighting the company's commitment to enhancing global energy security and sustainability.

The new fleet will consist of nine vessels, all currently under construction in South Korea. These ships are expected to be delivered starting later this year, with six having a cargo capacity of 174,000 m3 and three boasting a capacity of 200,000 m3. Equipped with state-of-the-art environmental and efficiency technologies, these vessels will primarily utilize Venture Global's liquefied natural gas for fuel. The implementation of the latest 2-stroke MEGA/MEGI engines, along with advanced hull forms, shaft generator, and air lubrication systems, positions these ships at the forefront of fuel efficiency and GHG emission reduction in the LNG carrier industry.

New LNG Vessel Fleet Announced

The choice of natural gas as the main power source for these vessels underscores Venture Global's dedication to environmental stewardship. Compared to traditional fuel oil-powered ships, LNG vessels emit 25% less CO2 and significantly lower levels of nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides. The selected engine type and supporting technology also play a crucial role in minimizing methane slip, further reducing the environmental impact.

Strategic Expansion and Global Energy Security

Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion, stating that it not only complements the company's core business but also enhances its ability to meet global energy demands efficiently. By integrating across the LNG supply chain and investing in next-generation vessels, Venture Global aims to bolster energy security for its customers and allies by providing clean, affordable, and reliable U.S. LNG.
