UNICO National Celebrates Italian American Achievements And Prepares For 101st Convention

At the prestigious Mid-Year Board of Directors Meeting and Presidential Awards Banquet held by UNICO National, the spotlight was on the remarkable achievements of Italian Americans in various fields. The event took place at the Hard Rock Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on March 17, 2024, celebrating individuals who have made significant contributions to business, sports, and community service.

Among the honorees, Bob Capoferri, the founder of Asphalt Paving Systems, received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Business for his outstanding contributions and leadership. NFL quarterback Joe Flacco, currently with the Indianapolis Colts, was awarded the Vince Lombardi Award, recognizing his excellence in sports. The awards were presented by notable figures including ESPN Correspondent Sal Paolantonio and Congressman Jeff Van Drew.

UNICO Honours Italian Americans

UNICO National President Cav. Ralph Contini expressed pride in recognizing the honorees for their leadership and achievements. He also highlighted the work of Denise Ingue from the Rare is Beautiful Foundation for her dedication to addressing rare diseases. The Greater Atlantic City Chapter of UNICO was also acknowledged for its contributions.

As the largest Italian American Service Organization in the United States, UNICO has been promoting Italian heritage and providing community support for over a century. With numerous chapters across New Jersey and nationwide, UNICO's philanthropic efforts exceed a million dollars annually. These efforts include scholarships, mental health wellness support, Alzheimer's support, cancer research and prevention, and assistance to local communities.

The organization is now gearing up for its 101st Annual Convention & Italian American Awards Gala scheduled for July 31, 2024, in Princeton, NJ. The event will honor several notable individuals including Ralph A. LaRossa of PSEG for his business leadership and Sal Paolantonio with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Journalism & Broadcasting Excellence. Other awardees include Sean Mullin receiving the Philip Mazzei Americanism Award, Lawrence R. Inserra, Jr. with the Cianci Award, Carol Martini Hemphill as the Rizzuto Award recipient, Ralph J. Torraco winning the Vastola Award, and several individuals being recognized with UNICO Armed Services Awards.

This annual gathering not only celebrates Italian American culture but also reinforces UNICO's commitment to service above self. By honoring these distinguished individuals and their contributions to society, UNICO continues to empower future generations of Italian Americans to lead and serve their communities effectively.
