Toyota And Lexus Electrified Vehicle Sales Skyrocket In First Quarter Of 2024

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) has unveiled impressive sales figures for its electrified vehicles in the first quarter of 2024, highlighting a significant uptick in consumer interest towards electric vehicles (EVs). The company reported that electrified vehicle sales soared to 206,850 units, accounting for 36.6 percent of its total sales volume during this period. This surge is indicative of a broader trend within the automotive industry towards sustainability and eco-friendly transportation options.

The Toyota division alone witnessed a remarkable increase in March, with sales of electrified vehicles climbing by 57 percent from the previous year to reach 66,492 units. Throughout the quarter, this figure expanded by 76.4 percent to 177,778 units. Similarly, the Lexus division experienced substantial growth, with March sales of electrified vehicles jumping by 87.5 percent to 11,665 units and quarterly sales up by 61.1 percent to 29,072 units.

Toyota's EV Sales Soar in Q1 2024

Overall, the Toyota division enjoyed a prosperous March with a total of 184,123 vehicles sold, marking a 22.7 percent increase from the previous year. The quarterly report was equally positive, showing a 21.3 percent rise in sales to 486,627 vehicles. Notably, models such as the Prius, Prius Prime, Camry HEV, Crown, and RAV4 HEV witnessed triple-digit gains in the first quarter. The all-electric bZ4X also saw a steady increase in demand.

The Lexus division reported its best-ever first quarter with sales reaching 78,471 vehicles, up by 15 percent. This achievement was bolstered by significant sales increases across several models including the ES HEV, NX HEV, NX PHEV, RX HEV, and LS HEV. The all-electric RZ stood out with an extraordinary performance, showcasing a sales increase of 363.8 percent in March and an astounding 766.5 percent for the quarter.

Jack Hollis, Executive Vice President of Sales at TMNA, credited this success to the company's extensive range of electrified vehicle options. He also revealed plans to introduce over 20 new, refreshed, or special edition vehicles later in the year. Among these are the highly anticipated all-new 2024 Tacoma with an available hybrid powertrain and the all-new 2024 Land Cruiser and 2025 Camry, both set to feature exclusively hybrid powertrains.

Toyota's longstanding presence in North America spans over 65 years, during which it has been deeply integrated into the region's cultural fabric.
