TIFF Unveils April Lineup: Duras Retrospective And HBO's The Sympathizer
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has unveiled its April lineup, promising a rich blend of cinematic treasures, including a significant retrospective on French filmmaker Marguerite Duras and the Canadian premiere of HBO's "The Sympathizer." TIFF's highlight for April is the retrospective "Destroy, She Said: The Cinema of Marguerite Duras," showcasing 17 films from the acclaimed director. This collection not only includes Duras's debut film "La Musica" but also features "Son nom de Venise dans Calcutta désert," among other rarely seen works. The festival will welcome special guests such as cinematographer Bruno Nuytten and editor Dominique Auvray, who have both collaborated with Duras, providing attendees with unique insights into her filmmaking process.

The festival is set to host the Canadian premiere of "The Sympathizer" on April 14, with an onstage conversation featuring co-showrunner and executive producer Don McKellar alongside producer Niv Fichman. Other notable screenings include "Midnight Madness Presents Full Time Killer" and the MDFF Selects Canadian premiere of Lucy Kerr's "Family Portrait." Additionally, TIFF will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather: Part II" and present a new 4K restoration of Charlie Chaplin's "A Woman of Paris."

TIFF continues its tradition of offering something for everyone with the "Silver Screenings" series, providing free screenings of classic films for those aged 65 and above, including Chaplin’s "A Woman of Paris."
