Sygnum Bank And Matter Labs Tokenise $6.9bn Fidelity Fund Reserves

In a significant move that bridges the gap between digital and traditional finance, Swiss digital asset banking group Sygnum has announced a $50m investment into Fidelity's Institutional Liquidity Fund (ILF) on behalf of its client, Matter Labs. This strategic investment will see the tokenisation of Matter Labs' treasury reserves onto the zkSync blockchain, marking a pivotal step in the integration of blockchain technology with conventional financial instruments.

The collaboration involves issuing security tokens that serve as on-chain representations of units in Fidelity's $6.9bn ILF, a move that is not only innovative but also indicative of the growing trend towards a fully-tokenised financial ecosystem. Jürg Rimle, Fidelity International's Country Head for Switzerland, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Sygnum Bank, highlighting its potential to widen access for professional and institutional investors to digital assets.

Fatmire Bekiri, Head of Tokenisation at Sygnum, underscored the significance of leveraging blockchain technology in conjunction with the expertise of a global investment manager like Fidelity. This collaboration aims to enhance the liquidity, accessibility, and efficiency of financial markets while fostering the creation of new financial products.

Marco Cora, SVP of Business and Operations at Matter Labs, emphasized that moving $50m of treasury reserves onto the zkSync blockchain is a testament to its institutional-grade security and Matter Labs' dedication to transparency. This initiative aligns with the broader trend of Real World Assets (RWA) tokenisation, which has seen a 74% increase to $2.5bn in 2023.

Sygnum operates globally with a banking licence in Switzerland and holds CMS and Major Payment Institution Licences in Singapore. The group is also regulated in Abu Dhabi and Luxembourg. Matter Labs, on the other hand, specializes in software development, engineering, and cryptography with a focus on scaling solutions for Ethereum through advanced zk-rollup technology.

zkSync is a layer 2 blockchain protocol aimed at enhancing Ethereum's performance by providing scalable and secure solutions. The partnership between Sygnum, Fidelity International, and Matter Labs not only showcases the potential for innovative financial solutions but also sets a precedent for the future integration of digital assets into mainstream finance.
