Severe Weather Across The US: Heavy Snow And Tornado Warnings Reported
A tornado near a shopping centre in central California caused significant damage, overturning vehicles and uprooting trees. Several individuals were hospitalised due to the incident. Meanwhile, San Francisco experienced its first-ever tornado warning. Across the US, severe weather conditions persisted, including heavy snow in upstate New York, a major ice storm in the Midwest, and severe weather alerts around Lake Tahoe.
The ice storm that began on Friday evening made driving hazardous across Iowa and eastern Nebraska. This led to temporary closures of Interstate 80 as numerous vehicles skidded off the road. In upstate New York, Orchard Park reported over 33 inches (84 centimetres) of snow, a common occurrence due to lake-effect snow.

On Saturday, a tornado struck near Scotts Valley, California, approximately 70 miles (110 kilometres) south of San Francisco. The National Weather Service confirmed that cars were overturned and trees along with utility poles were toppled. The Scotts Valley Police Department reported several injuries requiring hospitalisation.
In San Francisco, strong winds reaching 80 mph (130 kph) caused trees to fall onto cars and streets, damaging roofs. Meteorologist Dalton Behringer clarified that these damages resulted from straight-line winds rather than a tornado. Roger Gass from the weather service's Monterey office noted that this was San Francisco's first-ever tornado warning.
In western Washington state, tens of thousands faced power outages on Saturday as rain and gusty winds swept through the area. Local news outlets covered the impact of these adverse weather conditions on residents.
The recent spate of extreme weather events highlights the need for preparedness and awareness as such conditions can have widespread effects on communities across different regions.
