Stellantis Joins Forces With California To Slash Carbon Emissions And Promote Electric Vehicles

In a significant move towards a greener future, Stellantis has joined forces with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to propel its commitment to carbon neutrality, with an ambitious target set for 2038. This collaboration, announced on March 19, 2024, in Amsterdam, underscores Stellantis's dedication to its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, aiming to lead in the global decarbonization effort.

Under this partnership, Stellantis vows to intensify its electrification strategy in the U.S., focusing on educating consumers and dealers about electric vehicles (EVs). This includes working alongside Veloz to enhance EV awareness, offering discounted EVs to underprivileged communities, and investing an additional $10 million in public EV charging infrastructure. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares highlighted the dual benefits of this agreement: reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 10 to 12 million metric tons and providing U.S. customers with access to advanced vehicle technologies.

California Governor Gavin Newsom praised the initiative as a step forward in the battle against climate change, emphasizing the role of influential companies in driving environmental progress. CARB Chair Liane Randolph and Executive Officer Dr. Steven Cliff echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the importance of industry collaboration in achieving cleaner air and a sustainable future.

Stellantis currently offers five plug-in hybrids and two battery-electric vehicles in the U.S., with plans to introduce eight new BEV models this year. This is part of a broader strategy to launch 48 BEV nameplates globally by the end of 2024. The company's investment exceeding €50 billion in electrification over the next decade aims at achieving a 100% passenger car BEV sales mix in Europe and a 50% mix in the U.S. for passenger cars and light-duty trucks by 2030.

With approximately 400 GWh of battery capacity secured through support from six battery manufacturing plants across North America and Europe, Stellantis is well on its way to realizing its vision of becoming a carbon net zero corporation by 2038. This initiative not only highlights Stellantis's commitment to sustainable mobility but also sets a benchmark for industry-wide collaboration towards environmental conservation.

Stellantis N.V., known for its diverse portfolio of iconic and innovative brands such as Jeep®, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo, is at the forefront of providing clean, safe, and affordable mobility solutions worldwide. Through its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, Stellantis is paving the way towards achieving its goal of carbon net zero emissions, creating value for all stakeholders in the process.
