Sreepur Village Celebrates 35 Years Of Transforming Lives With RAF Club Event

In a significant milestone that marks three and a half decades of transformative work, Sreepur Village, a charity dedicated to supporting marginalised single mothers and their children in Bangladesh, is set to celebrate its 35th anniversary. The event, an anniversary lunch, is scheduled for May 18 at the prestigious RAF Club in London’s Mayfair. Since its foundation in 1989 by Pat Kerr, MBE, the organisation has been a beacon of hope, providing shelter, education, healthcare, and vocational training to over 5,000 families in dire need.

The celebration will be graced by the presence of Pat Kerr and Maya Halder from Bangladesh, two individuals whose lives epitomise the spirit of hope and empowerment that Sreepur Village stands for. Maya Halder's journey from a young child in need to a thriving artisan and leader showcases the charity's commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering independence. As a designer and producer for Sreepur Village Trade (SVT), Maya has become an influential figure for the local Outreach Project and the community of producers.

Sreepur's 35th Anniversary at RAF Club

The 35th-anniversary event is not just a celebration but also an opportunity to support Sreepur Village’s mission. Attendees will have the chance to purchase 'Made by Maya', personalised friendship bracelets crafted by Maya Halder herself. All proceeds from these sales will directly contribute to the charity’s ongoing operational costs, which continue to rise. Additionally, a range of gifts and accessories developed by Maya and other single mothers will be available for purchase. These items not only highlight the intricate artistry and skills honed by these women but also underscore Sreepur Village’s positive approach towards education and skill development within a nurturing environment.

Janette Porter, Chair of Trustees for Sreepur Village, expressed her enthusiasm about the anniversary, stating, "We are thrilled to celebrate 35 years of empowering lives at Sreepur Village. Maya's story is a shining example of the positive change that can occur when communities come together to support each other." This sentiment reflects the core mission of Sreepur Village: to create opportunities for change, growth, and independence for those who need it most.
