Spexi Geospatial Lands $1.03M Canadian Government Contract To Enhance Wildfire Response

In a significant move to enhance emergency preparedness and response mechanisms for wildfires in Canada, Spexi Geospatial, a Vancouver-based software and imagery network, has been awarded a substantial contract by the Government of Canada. The contract, valued at $1,030,400, aims to capture ultra-detailed Earth imagery through the Innovative Solutions Canada program. This initiative is set to provide crucial data and tools for the Canadian Federal Government and Provinces, aiding in the meticulous preparation and response to wildfire events across the nation.

Bill Lakeland, Chief Executive Officer of Spexi Geospatial, emphasized the increasing urgency of having access to precise and detailed information due to the escalating frequency of wildfires and the expansion of burnt areas in recent years. This trend, exacerbated by climate change and catastrophic weather events, necessitates informed decision-making to mitigate the impact of wildfires. The contract awarded to Spexi Geospatial marks a pioneering step towards utilizing ultrahigh-resolution imagery to support communities throughout British Columbia in their efforts against wildfire seasons.

The project leverages the Spexi Network, a global consortium of drone pilots operating with Spexi Geospatial’s cutting-edge software applications and AI imagery analysis. This innovative approach surpasses traditional imagery capture methods, offering unparalleled high-resolution images that are instrumental for emergency preparedness. Remarkably, within a week of the project's commencement, over 300,000 acres out of a total 660,000 acres have already been imaged by Spexi Network drone pilots, setting a new precedent in drone imagery capture on a global scale.
