Škoda Auto And VWITS Unite To Establish New IT Hub In Czech Republic
In a strategic move to bolster its digital and software capabilities, Škoda Auto has inaugurated a new regional office for Volkswagen Group Technology Solutions India (VWITS) in Prague. This initiative is set to enhance collaboration and establish new connections with specialists in India, a crucial market for Škoda Auto. The automotive industry is currently undergoing a significant transformation, with digitalisation and software solutions playing pivotal roles in shaping its future. The establishment of this IT hub is a testament to Škoda Auto's commitment to leading the charge in IT innovation within the Czech Republic.
The primary objective of the new VWITS regional office is to facilitate talent exchanges and foster international collaboration. By linking local experts with Group professionals, the office aims to serve as a vital conduit between the Czech Republic and India. This partnership is expected to yield substantial benefits in the development of new vehicles, cutting-edge manufacturing equipment, and Industry 4.0 technologies. Initially, the office will host 30 experts working closely with their counterparts in India to support Škoda Auto's extensive IT portfolio.

Škoda Auto's strategic focus extends beyond just technological advancements; it also encompasses cooperation with local software providers in key areas such as logistics, production, and car sales. The Prague-based IT hub will not only enhance in-house IT expertise but also enable a valuable exchange of talent. This hub will be co-located with Škoda Auto's IT departments that concentrate on technology solutions, data analysis, and artificial intelligence. Additionally, the premises will house the SAP competence centre for Volkswagen Group companies operated by Škoda Auto and an educational institute for software developers.
Recently, Škoda Auto hosted a hackathon aimed at IT experts with a focus on sustainability, underlining the company's commitment to innovation. VWITS stands as a global technology hub for the Volkswagen Group, employing over 2,600 professionals dedicated to driving innovation across various domains.
Looking ahead, Škoda Auto has set ambitious goals for itself. By 2030, it aims to be among the top five best-selling brands in Europe while also exploring growth opportunities in markets such as India, North Africa, Vietnam, and the ASEAN region. In 2023 alone, Škoda Auto delivered over 866,000 vehicles worldwide across its 11 passenger-car series. As part of the Brand Group CORE, Škoda Auto plays a crucial role in enhancing overall efficiency and fostering joint growth among Volkswagen Group's volume brands.
Škoda Auto's global footprint extends beyond its three sites in the Czech Republic to include production capacities in China, Slovakia, India, and Ukraine. With over 40,000 employees worldwide and operations in around 100 markets, Škoda Auto continues to solidify its position as a key player in the global automotive industry.
