Shopee’s ‘Raya Stail Kita’ Fashion Show Glorifies Malaysia’s Cultural Heritage

Shopee, a dominant force in Southeast Asia and Taiwan's e-commerce landscape, recently launched its #ShopeeRaiLokal Raya Stail Kita fashion show on Shopee Live. This innovative event is designed to motivate Malaysians to embrace stylish attire while supporting local businesses. With a unique 'Tarakucha Retro' theme, the fashion show brought together a mix of long-term sellers, celebrities, and influencers to showcase three trending styles this Raya season: kek lapis, burnt orange, and nostalgia with a modern twist.

The event aimed to be an inclusive celebration of Malaysian culture, offering everyone the chance to discover fashionable looks and promote local entrepreneurs. In a departure from conventional fashion shows, Shopee took a novel approach by slowing down the models' catwalks. This allowed the audience to learn how to mix and match different garments for each highlighted look.

Shopee Celebrates Malaysian Culture

A collaboration saw ten Muslim fashion sellers on Shopee and Habib Jewels providing outfits and accessories. Additionally, beauty and skincare brands contributed their products to enhance the event's offerings. Body positive model Hikma Al Hassan led the presentation of affordable and inclusive styles, reflecting the preferences of Malaysians shopping for their Baju Raya online.

The fashion show kicked off with the Kek Lapis look, encouraging bold experimentation with layers of colors, prints, and textures. Following this, attendees were treated to various interpretations of Burnt Orange for both genders. The final showcase blended traditional elements with retro influences under the Nostalgia Balik Kampung theme. Styling tips were offered by Kiffy Razak, Managing Editor of notable publications such as NONA, Hijabista, and Mingguan Wanita.

Emphasizing the importance of comfort and modesty in festive dressing was Fashion Designer Dato' Jovian Mandagie. Meanwhile, Malaysian Actor and Founder of Mikaseries, Zoey Rahman, expressed a preference for the timeless Baju Melayu for Raya celebrations.

Insights from a Shopee study highlighted that over 90% of Malaysian shoppers on the platform plan their purchases around coordinating family outfits for Raya. The study also noted a growing interest in layer cake Raya trends, retro outfits, and burnt orange hues.

The #ShopeeRaiLokal Raya Stail Kita fashion show forms part of Shopee's broader strategy to engage local sellers through episodic content. In addition to showcasing local talent and fashion, Shopee has introduced a 15-day free returns policy to ensure a seamless shopping experience for its users during Ramadan.
