SGS Green Mark Boosts Eco-Friendly Product Verification And Certification

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection, and certification company, has launched the SGS Green Mark to help brands, manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers meet the growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products and services. This initiative extends SGS's portfolio of sustainability services.

The SGS Green Mark, developed by SGS experts, includes seven single attribute claims, making it a diverse environmental claim certification and verification scheme. As global governments and regulators intensify scrutiny on greenwashing, more companies are seeking third-party verification to validate their environmental actions. This certification applies to a wide range of products including garments, fabrics, food service ware, plastic packaging, data cables, electronics, and furniture.

The SGS Green Mark demonstrates compliance with predefined standards related to seven environmental attributes:

Products undergo independent assessment according to recognized standards. An industry specialist conducts a technical review to confirm that the product claim is scientifically justified. Once compliance is confirmed through rigorous assessment within SGS’s global network of laboratories, a product can display the fully traceable SGS Green Mark.

Consumer Transparency and Market Adoption

The SGS Green Mark includes details of the environmental claim and assessment standards. It also features a QR code that provides consumers with further information verifying the claim’s authenticity. Following the pilot phase of this scheme, companies from electronic and textile sectors have already obtained the SGS Green Mark. Consumers now benefit from products displaying the SGS logo and QR code.
