Saudi Tourism Authority Reinforces Commitment To Malaysia With New Initiatives
The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) recently made a significant stride in enhancing its presence in Malaysia, marked by the launch of its inaugural trade roadshow at The Westin Kuala Lumpur on March 4. This event saw the participation of 18 Saudi stakeholders, including Destination Management Companies (DMCs), hotels, transportation partners, and travel agents. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to tap into the leisure segment, demonstrating Saudi's commitment to Malaysian travellers and further opening its doors to international visitors.
This move aligns with Saudi's Vision 2030, which aims to welcome 150 million annual visits by the end of this decade. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has recognized Saudi as the fastest large growing destination, with international arrivals surging by 156% compared to 2019. The ease of visiting Saudi Arabia has been significantly enhanced for Malaysians, thanks to the eligibility of Malaysia among the 63 countries for Saudi's e-Visa program. Additionally, Malaysian passport holders with UK, Schengen, or US visit visas can also avail themselves of e-visa and visa on arrival services.

A notable development is the introduction of the 96-hour Stopover Visa, which allows visitors flying with SAUDI and Flynas to enjoy up to 96 hours in Saudi Arabia, making it an ideal stopover destination for Malaysians. The aviation sector in Saudi plays a crucial role in this connectivity, with over 700,000 seats added across three main carriers – Air Asia X, Malaysia Airlines, and SAUDIA – and plans to further increase flight frequencies.
During the roadshow, STA unveiled enhanced Umrah+ packages accessible through the Nusuk platform. These packages are designed specifically for Malaysian pilgrims, simplifying e-visa applications and offering curated experiences that invite Malaysians to explore Saudi's rich culture and historical treasures.
Saudi Arabia offers a diverse tourism experience that caters to various preferences of Malaysian travellers. From cultural exploration and historical wonders, including seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites and over 10,000 archaeological sites like Historic Jeddah and At Turaif in Diriyah, to diverse offerings such as VIA Riyadh and Bujairi Terrace. Additionally, exclusive events and festivals like the Riyadh Season, AlUla Skies Festival, and Winter at Tantora provide unique cultural celebrations and entertainment.
To further promote Saudi's tourism offerings, an immersive experience titled "Discover the True Home of Arabia" is being held at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur from March 5th to 10th.
