Saudi Housing Minister's Beijing Trip Bolsters Saudi-China Investment Ties

During a significant official visit to Beijing, Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing Majed Al-Hogail engaged in pivotal discussions with leading figures in China's construction and housing sectors. This visit marked a crucial step in strengthening the collaborative ties between Saudi Arabia and China, focusing on construction and real estate development. Meetings with key personalities such as Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong and President of the China International Contractors Association Fang Qiuchen were central to this initiative.

The discussions aimed at fostering collaboration on joint housing policies and programs, exchanging expertise in city planning, sustainable urban development, and exploring investments in construction technology. Both nations expressed a keen interest in future partnerships for real estate and infrastructure projects within residential communities, highlighting the potential leverage of China's advanced construction technology.

Saudi-China Investment Boost

Furthermore, the visit aimed at attracting Chinese companies specializing in building, construction, maintenance, and cleaning services to Saudi Arabia. This move seeks to introduce innovative practices from the Chinese contracting sector into the Saudi market. The Chinese side showed enthusiasm for learning from Saudi Arabia's rapid development across various fields and expressed eagerness to share expertise through specialized training programs for Saudi workers in the building and construction industries.

The culmination of Al-Hogail's visit was the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding with major Chinese construction companies. These partnerships are set to capitalize on real estate investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia, particularly focusing on residential communities and suburbs developed by the National Housing Company. This collaboration aligns with the Kingdom's ambitious housing program, which aims to increase homeownership rates to 70% by 2030 by providing more housing options, diverse financing solutions, and affordable prices for Saudi families.

Al-Hogail's trip underscores the robust relationship between Saudi Arabia and China, following the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed between the two countries in December 2022. Initiated by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Chinese President Xi Jinping, this agreement establishes a framework for cooperation across various sectors, including housing.

The Saudi-Chinese partnership is poised to enhance the dynamism of the Saudi real estate market. Collaboration with major international companies is expected to attract investments to the housing sector, a vital industry impacting over 120 related activities and industries. This alliance will ultimately lead to a wider range of affordable housing options, boost non-oil GDP, and contribute to achieving the goals of the national housing program.
