Empowering Gender Equality In Design: Readymag's Designing Women Initiative And Grant

Readymag, a leading platform for website design without the need for coding, has announced the relaunch of its Designing Women initiative. This initiative is a strategic effort to address gender inequality within the design sector. Central to this relaunch is the introduction of the ReadyLaunch Grant, which aims to empower female-identifying, non-binary, and other individuals facing gender-related challenges in the design industry. Diana Kasay, co-founder and CEO of Readymag, emphasized the importance of creating supportive environments for women in design rather than traditional gestures on March 8th.

The ReadyLaunch Grant is designed to support a variety of design projects, including newsletters, zines, YouTube channels, and podcasts. It offers a comprehensive package that includes a $2,000 fellowship, one-year free access to a Female Design Council membership, enrollment in the Female Design Council Mentor Match Program, and assistance with media coverage. The application window for this grant is set from March 4, 2024, to May 8, 2024.

Additionally, the Designing Women web project features profiles of 37 influential women in the design industry from the 20th and 21st centuries. Notable figures such as Paula Scher and Jessica Walsh are celebrated within this archive. The initiative's relaunch aims for a more inclusive approach by drawing on the experiences of Readymag's predominantly female marketing and design teams.

Alya Datii, Head of Marketing at Readymag, shared insights into the relaunch process. The team identified challenges and needs at the intersection of work and gender by consulting with their experiences and reaching out to other communities for input. This collaborative effort has led to a more horizontal and inclusive project.

The initiative also highlights over 20 organizations and initiatives designed to support female and non-binary individuals in the design field. These resources offer networking opportunities, funding support, access to design training and career opportunities, and platforms for showcasing personal work.

Readymag itself provides a versatile tool for creating websites, landing pages, and online publications without coding. It features a non-templated layout system, advanced animations, unique interactions, access to over 5,000 free fonts with complete typography control, and tools designed for effective teamwork.
