Combating Healthcare Provider Burnout With AI: Ready Computing's Innovative Approach
In a collaborative effort to address healthcare provider burnout, Ready Computing has joined forces with Clinical Architecture and SOAP Health to participate in the latest AI Tech Sprint Challenge, hosted by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This initiative seeks to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to devise innovative solutions aimed at alleviating the widespread issue of medical provider burnout, characterized by emotional exhaustion and a diminished sense of personal accomplishment. The challenge, which spans 120 days, is orchestrated by the National Artificial Intelligence Institute (NAII) and operates under the Government Innovation Framework.
Team Ready is set to tackle Track 2 of the challenge, focusing on Community Care Document Processing. Their mission is to develop an AI-powered data platform that enhances the ingestion and sharing of diverse community records among VA providers, thereby improving continuity of care for veterans. The proposed solution aims to streamline data processing and normalization through advanced AI components capable of inferring diagnoses, automating assessments, and optimizing clinical data interpretation.

The negative impact of provider burnout cannot be overstated, with consequences including reduced work productivity, compromised patient care quality, and an increased likelihood of medical errors. By employing AI to standardize and organize content, Team Ready's solution intends to mitigate these effects by providing medical professionals with accurate and reliable information, thus reducing the cognitive load on providers and enhancing patient care.
Michael LaRocca, Founder and CEO of Ready Computing, emphasized the importance of this initiative in supporting VA providers overwhelmed by data. "Our job as technologists is to assist those providers with innovative solutions that ensure their patients receive the best care possible," LaRocca stated. This project aligns with Ready Computing's broader commitment to improving veteran health and acknowledges the critical role of supporting VA providers.
Participants in the Tech Sprint will gain access to a wealth of data from clinical trials, patents, experimental therapeutics, and other unique federal data sources. Additionally, insights from VA healthcare providers and subject matter experts in areas relevant to the challenge will be provided. Ready Computing's extensive experience with the VA and its system architecture positions them advantageously for this challenge. Their expertise is complemented by the proven AI modules brought by partners Clinical Architecture and SOAP Health.
The VA AI Tech Sprint Challenge not only fosters innovation within the VA but also offers competing organizations potential opportunities for longer-term partnerships with the VA and access to funding opportunities. This competition is part of the implementation of provisions from the AI Executive Order released on October 30, 2023, and adheres to Trustworthy AI Principles as promoted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Ready Computing's leadership will discuss their project at this year's HIMSS conference in Orlando, Florida. Interested parties can visit Booth #2281 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, March 12 for more information.
