Prudential Singapore First To Offer Online Beneficiary Nomination Via Singpass

Starting from 15 March 2024, Prudential Singapore has taken a significant step forward by introducing an online service for nominating beneficiaries, a first in the nation's insurance sector. This innovative service, utilizing the Sign with Singpass digital signing feature, offers Prudential policyholders a streamlined and efficient way to ensure their policy benefits are accurately directed to their intended recipients. This move not only simplifies the process but also aims to eliminate potential delays and disputes in benefit distribution.

Previously, the process required policyholders to physically submit their nomination forms, either by mail or in person at Prudential's customer service centers. The transition to an online platform represents a shift towards digital convenience, allowing nominations to be completed with just a few clicks. The importance of nominating beneficiaries cannot be overstated, as it ensures that policy benefits are promptly and correctly distributed according to the policyholder's wishes.

Online Beneficiary Nomination at Prudential

The introduction of this service follows closely on the heels of regulatory changes announced by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) in July 2023. These amendments to the Insurance (Nomination of Beneficiaries) Regulations 2009 now permit insurers to offer online nomination services from 2 January 2024. Prudential's adoption of this digital approach underscores its commitment to leveraging technology for customer convenience.

To utilize the online Nomination Of Beneficiaries (NOB) service, Prudential policyholders are required to log into PRUaccess, the company's customer portal. Here, they can initiate the nomination process for their chosen policy by providing nominee details and appointing two attestors. The digital signing process is facilitated through Sign with Singpass, ensuring a secure and verifiable submission. Once completed, Prudential processes the nomination and updates the policyholder on its status.

Mr Vikas Sinha, Chief Operations Officer at Prudential Singapore, emphasized the simplicity, convenience, and security of the online NOB service. He highlighted its role in preventing delays or disputes over policy proceeds, ultimately offering peace of mind to customers and their loved ones.

A testament to the service's impact comes from Ms Yeo Sook Kuan, a 38-year-old Prudential policyholder. She shared her relief at the introduction of the online service, noting how it eliminated the cumbersome process of paper forms and in-person witness signatures. For her and many others, this digital solution represents a significant time-saving and hassle-free advancement.

Policyholders are advised to exercise caution during digital transactions with Singpass by verifying the domain name and safeguarding their credentials. It's also important to note that this online NOB service is currently available only for revocable nominations.

This initiative by Prudential Singapore not only marks a milestone in digital innovation within the insurance industry but also aligns with broader efforts towards enhancing digital accessibility and security in financial transactions. As such services become increasingly commonplace, they promise a future where managing financial products is more accessible and user-friendly for everyone involved.
