PMI's environmental strategy encompasses comprehensive goals across climate change, forest conservation, and water security. The company has set forth science-based targets, aiming for carbon neutrality for its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 and net zero emissions for scope 1, 2, and 3 by 2040. Corporate Commitment to Sustainability
PMI's leadership expressed their gratitude towards CDP for the recognition, highlighting the importance of external validation in driving their sustainability journey forward. Scott Coutts, Senior Vice President of Operations at PMI, emphasized the role of transparent reporting in identifying new opportunities for environmental action and adapting to regulatory changes. Furthermore, PMI is also focusing on nature-related financial disclosures, planning to release its first report aligned with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) recommendations for the financial year 2025. This initiative places PMI among the first cohort of organizations committing to the TNFD framework, demonstrating a proactive approach to addressing climate change and preserving biodiversity.
Jennifer Motles, Chief Sustainability Officer at PMI, highlighted the interconnectedness of the company's decarbonization strategy with the broader goal of ecosystem preservation. PMI's early adoption of the TNFD framework and its ongoing efforts to integrate climate-related risks and opportunities into its business model signify a holistic approach to sustainability. By aligning with both the TNFD and the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations, PMI is setting a precedent in corporate environmental responsibility.
This recognition by CDP not only affirms PMI's leadership in environmental transparency and action but also reflects the company's unwavering commitment to sustainability.
