Kuala Lumpur To Host Petrochemical Sustainability Conference 2024, Focusing On Low Carbon Initiatives
Set to make a significant return, the biennial Petrochemical Sustainability Conference (PSC) is scheduled for September 26 and 27, aiming to foster discussions on achieving a low carbon future within the industry. This event will run concurrently with Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), marking a collaborative effort to spotlight sustainable development in Southeast Asia's petrochemical sector. The Malaysian Petrochemicals Association (MPA), in partnership with the Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC) and the Federation of Thai Industries - Petrochemical Club (FTIPC), spearheads this initiative, demonstrating a unified regional approach towards sustainability.
The conference is poised to attract 900 delegates, offering a platform for industry producers, consumers, academics, and policy-makers to deliberate on how the petrochemical value chain can align with global net-zero objectives. With Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Environmental Resource Management (ERM) returning as knowledge partners, PSC 2024 promises to deliver insightful discussions on innovation and collaboration towards sustainable growth.

Mr Shakeel Ahmad Khan, President of MPA, emphasized the critical role of the petrochemicals industry in the energy transition and highlighted the association's dedication to promoting sustainability as a driver for long-term competitiveness. The conference will feature over 20 sessions and 50 speakers, aiming to address the complexities of energy transition through interactive exchanges and networking opportunities.
PSC 2022 witnessed participation from 627 delegates and featured discussions on decarbonisation, circular economy practices, and transition enablers. Building on this foundation, PSC 2024 plans to introduce additional sessions and new formats to enhance the delegate experience. Attendees will also enjoy complimentary access to OGA exhibition halls, facilitating broader industry networking.
OGA 2024 is set to run from September 25 to 27, with strategic partnerships including MPA and the Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council (MOGSC). Gerard Leeuwenburgh, Country General Manager of Informa Markets Malaysia, expressed enthusiasm for continuing the collaboration with MPA and its regional counterparts. He highlighted OGA's role in shaping conversations and partnerships essential for defining Southeast Asia's energy future.
