'The Perfumer’s Garden': A Scented Journey Through Art At Caversham Arts Trail
READING, UK, April 24th, 2024 – The cultural landscape of Reading is set to be enriched with a unique exhibition titled "The Perfumer’s Garden: Seasons and Sensations — A Reinterpretation of Renaissance Art" as part of this year’s Caversham Arts Trail. This innovative showcase, which extends its stay until June 23rd, will be hosted at the HUMOS Studio and Showroom in Caversham, offering a novel experience for art enthusiasts and the general public alike.
The exhibition kicks off during the Arts Trail weekends on the 11th-12th and 18th-19th of May from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, continuing through to late June. Admission is complimentary, allowing unfettered access to all visitors without the need for prior booking. Unlike traditional art displays, "The Perfumer’s Garden" does not feature original artworks but instead presents a creative reinterpretation through the medium of scent, employing advanced AI technology to craft new works inspired by the masterpieces of Bosch, Botticelli, and Arcimboldo.

By transforming classic visual themes into olfactory experiences, each scent crafted for the exhibition aims to capture the essence of the Renaissance era. This approach offers visitors an innovative way to engage with historical art, exploring the timeless beauty of classical themes through the evocative world of olfaction.
Julie, a CAT organiser, shared her excitement about the collaboration: "I was very excited that Humos approached us to join CAT 2024 and upon meeting Gabriel, the owner, I knew his passion for beauty and vision for his work resonated so well with the ethos of CAT. HUMOS is a beautiful premise with perfect exhibition spaces and a natural aesthetic. I can’t wait to see the final exhibition at HUMOS and share it with those visiting the Trail."
The Caversham Arts Trail, initiated by local artists in 2010, has become an essential cultural event in Reading. This year, it showcases 43 artists across 20 venues, providing a platform for direct engagement between artists and the public. "The Perfumer’s Garden" stands out as a highlight of this year’s trail, offering an extended opportunity for visitors to delve into how traditional art can be reimagined for modern senses.
This exhibition promises an interactive olfactory art experience that celebrates classical art's timeless beauty through the transformative power of scent. Visitors are invited to explore new interpretations of classical themes presented in a unique and engaging manner.
