Osprey Charging Achieves Milestone With Over 1,000 Rapid EV Chargers In The UK
Osprey Charging has solidified its position as a pivotal player in the UK's electric vehicle (EV) charging sector, achieving a significant milestone with over 1,000 live public EV chargers now operational across the country. This development marks a substantial growth spurt for Osprey, which has seen its network expand by 150% within a mere year. According to the latest statistics from Zap-Map, this expansion places Osprey as the third largest public rapid charging network in the UK.
The company's aggressive growth strategy throughout 2023 has continued into the early months of 2024, with Osprey outpacing all competitors in terms of new charger installations. This expansion includes the launch of 15 high-powered charging hubs equipped with six or more 300kW chargers each, strategically located in key areas including Devon, Cumbria, Essex, Dunbartonshire, Carmarthenshire, and Nottinghamshire. These hubs not only enhance the accessibility of high-powered charging but also underscore Osprey's commitment to supporting the burgeoning EV market.
Osprey's dedication to providing a reliable and user-friendly charging experience has been recognized repeatedly, with the network being named a ‘Driver Recommended Network’ by Zap Map for the fourth consecutive year. Additionally, Osprey's excellence was acknowledged at the 2023 Transport and Energy awards and the Electric Vehicle Innovation and Excellence Awards (EVIEs), where it received multiple accolades including Best EV Charging Network and Chargepoint Network of the Year.
Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging, expressed his enthusiasm about reaching this milestone, emphasizing the importance of expanding infrastructure to meet the growing demands of EV drivers and the industry at large. He also highlighted recent recommendations from the House of Lords aimed at accelerating the rollout of charging infrastructure. These recommendations include addressing delays in funding and planning regulations and equalizing VAT rates between domestic and public charging to improve customer experience.
Osprey Charging's network is distinguished by its reliability, with a 99% operational rate across its chargers. The network is designed to be accessible and easy to use, accepting various payment methods including contactless payments, app payments, RFID payments, and all major third-party payment methods such as fleet cards. Moreover, every Osprey charger is powered by 100% renewable electricity, aligning with broader environmental sustainability goals.
The rapid expansion of Osprey's network and its multiple award wins in 2023 serve as a testament to its leading role in the UK's EV charging infrastructure. As Osprey continues to grow and evolve, it remains focused on enhancing the EV charging experience for drivers across the UK, further supporting the transition to electric mobility.
