Ortel Unveils New Laser Model To Boost LiDAR And Optical Sensing Capabilities

ALHAMBRA, Calif., March 15, 2024 – Ortel, a subsidiary of Photonics Foundries, has unveiled its latest innovation in optical technology, the Model 1786 1550 nm Laser Module for Optical Sensing. This new product marks a significant advancement in the field of optical sensing, offering a continuous wavelength (CW) coherent optical source designed to operate across C-Band wavelengths under varying temperature and humidity conditions.

Gyo Shinozaki, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Ortel, expressed enthusiasm about the launch. "We are excited to announce the 1786 laser as the first new product from Ortel under Photonics Foundries ownership," Shinozaki stated. He highlighted the enhanced capabilities and innovative technologies that customers can anticipate from Ortel, thanks to the support from Photonics Foundries.

Ortel's New Laser Enhances LiDAR Tech

The 1786 laser is engineered to provide a narrow linewidth source for designers, with output powers available in 40mW, 50mW, and 63mW variants. It features a maximum linewidth of 300 KHz and is housed in an industry-standard 14-pin butterfly package. Additionally, it includes an internal thermo-electric cooler (TEC) to accommodate applications subjected to broad temperature ranges and humidity levels.

Ensuring reliability and performance, the laser adheres to Telcordia GR-468 standards. It complements Ortel's existing 1790 high-powered coherent laser, which boasts an ultra-narrow linewidth below 100 KHz. The 1786 laser supports a wide array of industrial applications such as materials characterization, mechanical strain monitoring, terahertz-spectroscopy, interferometry, and position and interference measurement.

Ortel invites attendees to explore this latest offering at Satellite 2024: Booth 2238 in Washington DC from March 18-21. For decades, Ortel has positioned itself as a leader in optical and RF performance technologies across various industries. The company prides itself on pioneering innovation in predistortion, linearity, and bandwidth.

Photonics Foundries, Inc., which acquired Ortel in 2023, is renowned for its comprehensive solutions in opto-electronics technologies. It provides customers with customized product solutions, new product launch services, and extensive packaging and manufacturing capabilities for lasers, optical devices, RF sensors, and electronics integration for system builds.

This collaboration between Ortel and Photonics Foundries signifies a promising future for optical sensing technologies. With a focus on reliability and innovation, the Model 1786 Laser Module is set to enhance a broad spectrum of industrial applications.
