Operation Storybook Launches To Ease Military Pet Boarding Challenges
Dogs on Deployment, a distinguished non-profit organization dedicated to aiding military families and their pets, has recently unveiled Operation Storybook. This national campaign coincides with the Month of the Military Child, aiming to shed light on the increasing difficulties military families face, especially concerning pet boarding and relocation. Operation Storybook introduces a novel approach to raising awareness and support through storytelling, centered on Katrina Moore's touching children's book "Sometimes Love."
In the aftermath of the pandemic, military families are encountering heightened challenges. Among these is the surge in pet shipping costs, further complicated by the restricted availability of space for companion pets on military flights. This financial strain poses a significant obstacle for families moving overseas, necessitating prompt support and solutions.

At the heart of Operation Storybook is "Sometimes Love," a children's book by Katrina Moore that delicately portrays the emotional journey of military families. The campaign leverages this story to foster empathy and understanding towards the unique experiences of military children and the indispensable role pets play in their lives.
A Critical Time for Action
The need for Operation Storybook is accentuated by a noticeable increase in pet travel expenses, severely affecting relocating military families. Dogs on Deployment has been instrumental in offering support, providing over $543,560 in financial aid for pet relocation and fostering more than 6,789 military pets. A notable instance of this support was Lieutenant Taylor Rogers and his family, who were able to find a temporary home for their dog Vince during a challenging relocation.
Campaign Goals and Activities
Operation Storybook sets out to enhance awareness about the pet boarding and relocation challenges faced by military families. It aims to cultivate empathy through the compelling narrative of "Sometimes Love" and raise funds to assist Dogs on Deployment's mission in supporting military families with these expenses.
Participation and Support
To partake in Operation Storybook, individuals are encouraged to donate $40 or more, with each donor receiving a copy of "Sometimes Love" as a gesture of appreciation. These contributions are crucial in bolstering Dogs on Deployment’s efforts to help military families stay united with their pets.
Join the Movement
"Dogs on Deployment invites communities nationwide to join in supporting our military families during these challenging times. Operation Storybook is not just a campaign; it represents a movement towards empathy, understanding, and concrete support for those who give so much for our country," expressed Alisa Sieber-Johnson, CEO of Dogs on Deployment.
