Onward Ops Foundation: Empowering Veterans In Their Transition To Civilian Life
The Expiration Term of Service Sponsorship Program (ETS-SP) has taken a significant step forward in aiding military personnel transition into civilian life with the launch of the Onward Ops Foundation. This new public charity aims to support Veterans and their families as they navigate the complexities of moving from military to civilian roles. With around 200,000 service members making this transition annually, the challenges they face, including relocation, employment, housing, and medical care, can be daunting.
John Hoffman, Director of the Onward Ops Foundation, emphasized the foundation's commitment to directly benefiting Veterans. "Every dollar contributed is used to support our newest Veterans," Hoffman stated. The foundation prides itself on ensuring successful life outcomes for each individual it assists.

The Onward Ops Foundation collaborates with major partners such as Google, the Department of Veterans Affairs, PenFed Foundation, and USAA’s Face the Fight Foundation. This has allowed Onward Ops to extend its reach nationwide, with enrollments surpassing 1,200 service members monthly—a figure expected to double within the year. These partnerships enable the foundation to offer comprehensive support services without the burden of overhead costs.
Retired Lieutenant General Ken Tovo, a board member of the Onward Ops Foundation, highlighted the proactive nature of the program. "This is the only program that engages with service members across all branches before they start their transition back into civilian life," Tovo explained. The foundation's approach aims to reduce stress for service members by providing individualized support and resources.
Joe Fields, CEO of Tencate Grass Americas and board member of the Onward Ops Foundation, praised the innovative approach of the foundation. For just one dollar a day per service member, the foundation can offer access to certified mentors and resources for education, healthcare, employment, and more.
Contributions to the Onward Ops Foundation are tax-deductible and can be earmarked for supporting a new Veteran and their family during their transition or for providing emergency assistance to Veterans in need. Donors also have the option to specify whether their contributions should be used nationally or in a specific state.
For those interested in supporting transitioning service members and military spouses as volunteer sponsors or joining the network of support, more information is available at OnwardOps.org. The foundation also encourages following @OnwardOps for news and updates.
