NUE's Solar Power Solutions Illuminate USDA Fire Camps Event With Sustainability
New Use Energy (NUE) participated in the USDA/Forest Service "Industry Days" at the USDA Technology & Development Center in San Dimas, CA. The event, themed "Portable Power in Fire Camps - Low Carbon Alternatives," aimed to evaluate alternative energy sources for fire camps.
NUE demonstrated its SunKit™ 5050 EXT and SunCase™ 3651 products, which powered a simulated "spike camp" with communications, laptops, lighting, and small appliances like coffee makers and hot plates. Despite an overcast morning, the SunKit™, connected to 2200 Watts of solar panels, ended the demonstration with more battery capacity than it started with.

In smoky conditions, NUE’s portable products can be recharged from gas generators, reducing carbon emissions by up to 80%. This feature is particularly beneficial in fire camps where air quality can be compromised.
Industry Recognition
Lee Feliciano, COO of NUE, highlighted the company’s origins in disaster relief and emergency management. He also mentioned NUE’s recent award from DHS’s Clean Power for Hours competition as a testament to its expertise. Feliciano expressed gratitude to the San Dimas facility’s Project Team for their insights into real-world firefighting scenarios and the post-demonstration tour.
