Norton Motorcycles To Headline Sponsor Lansdowne Classic Series In 2024

Norton Motorcycles has proudly announced its role as the championship headline sponsor for the Lansdowne Classic Series during the 2024 season. This partnership underscores Norton's commitment to the motorcycling community and its heritage within the realm of historic Grand Prix racing. The Lansdowne Classic Series, established in 1998, is a British Championship that celebrates the spirit of motorcycle racing prior to 1965, with the Norton Manx notably being a fan favourite since the series' inception.

As part of this sponsorship, the 2024 season will see the introduction of the Norton Rider of the Meeting award. This accolade will be presented to a standout competitor at each championship round, further enhancing the competitive spirit of the series. Robert Hentschel, CEO of Norton Motorcycles, expressed enthusiasm for this initiative, highlighting Norton's historical ties to international motorcycle racing and its dedication to supporting grassroots motorsports within the UK.

Gordon Russell, Organiser of the Lansdowne Classic Series, shared his excitement about Norton's involvement. He emphasized how this partnership would elevate the profile of classic racing and attract both new and veteran riders to participate in this unique community. The series aims to replicate the racing experience of the 1950s and early 1960s, offering spectators and participants alike a glimpse into the golden era of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

The opening round of the Lansdowne Classic Series is scheduled for 6th – 7th April at Pembrey Circuit. This event promises to showcase some of the most competitive racing in the series, thanks to regulations designed to ensure a level playing field for all participants.

Founded in 1898, Norton Motorcycles has evolved from a manufacturer of fittings and parts for bicycles to one of Britain's most iconic motorcycle brands. Known for models like the 650SS, Atlas, Commando, Dominator, Manx, Navigator, and more, Norton has consistently pushed the boundaries of motorcycle technology. The brand's association with Isle of Man TT racing has cemented its status in motorsport history. In April 2020, Norton entered a new chapter under TVS Motor Company's ownership, continuing its legacy from a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Solihull, West Midlands.

The Lansdowne Classic Series was inspired by the inaugural Goodwood Revival meeting in 1998. Its mission is to offer a competitive platform for genuine and faithfully replicated pre-1964 Group 1 and 2 motorcycles. By doing so, it aims to recreate the sights, sounds, and spirit of mid-20th-century racing for both riders and spectators. The series collaborates with leading UK motorcycle racing clubs including CRMC, BMCRC, and NG Road Racing.
