Nissan Formula E Achieves Milestone Victory In Misano With Oliver Rowland
In a thrilling turn of events at the Misano E-Prix, the Nissan Formula E Team celebrated its inaugural victory in the Gen3 era, thanks to Oliver Rowland's outstanding performance. Starting fifth in Saturday's race, Rowland crossed the finish line in second place but was later elevated to the winner after a disqualification in the field. Despite a promising start from the 10th position on Sunday, a technical glitch hindered his car from completing the final lap due to energy depletion. Teammate Sacha Fenestraz also showcased commendable skill, securing ninth and fifth places over the weekend. Additionally, reserve and simulator driver Caio Collet gained valuable experience behind the wheel of the Nissan e-4ORCE 04 during an FP0 session.
The team's efforts have solidified their standings, placing them third in the Drivers' Championship and fourth in the Teams' Championship. Looking ahead, they are set to compete in the Monaco E-Prix on April 27. Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, lauded both Rowland and Fenestraz for their exceptional performances. Despite the setback on Sunday, Rowland remained optimistic about the team's capabilities. Fenestraz expressed satisfaction with his progress and the strategic decisions made over the weekend. Collet was also pleased to contribute to the team's data collection efforts.
Nissan's engagement with Formula E began in Season 5, marking a significant step towards promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and achieving carbon neutrality. The acquisition of the e.dams race team in 2022 and a partnership with McLaren Racing to supply EV powertrain technology for the Gen3 era underscore Nissan's commitment to innovation in electric mobility. Formula E stands as a pioneering sport with a net zero carbon footprint certification, aiming to enhance sustainable mobility and mitigate air pollution globally.
