2024 Native American Award Of Achievement Honors Melinda Coffin And Charles Montague

Imagine This has recently announced the distinguished recipients of the 2024 Annual Native American Award of Achievement, shining a spotlight on two influential figures in the tribal gaming sector: Melinda Coffin and Charles Montague. Both awardees have been recognized for their significant contributions and leadership within the Native American gaming community.

Melinda Coffin, honored with the Native American Woman of the Year Award, holds the esteemed position of CEO at Soaring Eagle Gaming in Michigan. Notably, she is the first Tribal Member to oversee this role for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Coffin's leadership has been instrumental in launching sports betting and online gaming in 2022, marking a significant milestone with a multiyear national partnership with the Detroit Lions. Opting to launch its own platform rather than selling its license, Soaring Eagle Gaming under Coffin's guidance has achieved a notable milestone. Furthermore, she has played a crucial role in introducing five new dining franchises at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, including renowned names such as Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and Guy Fieri’s Chicken Guy!

Aside from her professional achievements, Coffin is a passionate advocate for organ donation, inspired by her personal experience of receiving three kidney transplants. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration, alongside completing the Executive Development Program through the University of Las Vegas Nevada. Coffin also contributes significantly to her community, serving on various boards and carrying the spirit name "Makoons Kwe," which translates to "Little Bear Woman," symbolizing her role as a healer and protector within her tribe.

Charles Montague, awarded the Native American Man of the Year Award, has been a transformative figure in tribal gaming since 1997. As the first Quechan tribal member to become General Manager of Casino Operations, Montague has been pivotal in negotiations and developments that have propelled the Quechan Casino Resort forward. His extensive leadership experience across various roles has contributed to significant growth and success within the industry. Montague's military service in both the United States Air Force and Coast Guard underscores his dedication and strategic foresight, which have been instrumental in advancing his tribe's prosperity and well-being.

In recognition of their outstanding contributions, Imagine This has collaborated with the Indian Gaming Association to donate $10,000 on behalf of each awardee to a charity of their choice. This gesture not only honors their commitment to community service but also supports cultural preservation efforts.

The Annual Native American Award of Achievement by Imagine This celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment within their communities, particularly in the gaming industry. Both Melinda Coffin and Charles Montague exemplify these qualities through their impactful work in tribal gaming, setting a precedent for future leaders.
