Celebrating Maternal Affection: Mother's Day Art Competition Announced

In a heartwarming initiative to celebrate Mother's Day, MUMs for Life has launched an Art Competition, inviting children from 100 pre- and primary schools across Singapore to express their love and appreciation for their mothers through art. The competition, themed 'A Mother's Love', is designed to encourage young artists to reflect on and depict the affection and strength they receive from their mothers.

The competition is divided into three age-specific categories to cater to a wide range of young talents. Category A is open to preschoolers aged 4 to 6 years, Category B to lower primary students aged 7 to 9 years, and Category C to upper primary students aged 10 to 12 years. In an exciting collaboration, MUMs for Life has partnered with Mama on Palette, a community focused on supporting mothers' mental wellness through art. Together, they have introduced a special colouring template for the youngest participants in Category A, titled "Bonding with Mama in the Garden". This template, designed by Mama on Palette artist Khesia Kalistyatika, emphasizes the pivotal role of mothers through the metaphor of a garden's beauty.

For participants in Categories B and C, the competition encourages the creation of original artworks on A3 size paper using traditional mediums such as paint, crayons, colored pencils, or mixed mediums for an added layer of creativity. Dr. Xander Ong, CEO of the Centre for Fathering, shared his enthusiasm for the competition: "This Art Competition celebrates the sacrificial love of mothers. Through this initiative, we hope to provide an opportunity for sons and daughters to express their love for their mums, capture the mother's love in Singapore, and share it with a larger audience".

Exhibition and Participation

The selected artworks will be featured at the Mother's Day Art Exhibition on May 11, 2024. This exhibition aims to celebrate the creative talents of young artists and honor the special bond between mothers and children. Entries for the Mother's Day Art Competition are now being accepted until April 12, 2024, at various partnering locations across Singapore.
