Mitsubishi Motors UK Marks 50th Anniversary With Year-Long Celebrations

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is commemorating its 50th year of operations in 2024 with a series of events designed to celebrate the brand's rich heritage. This milestone year began in February at the annual Mitsubishi Motors in the UK Aftersales Conference, where the brand's extensive network of 110 aftersales dealers gathered. Special recognition was awarded to Tees Valley Motors and Devonshire Motors for their 20 and 35 years of service, respectively, along with Fields Mitsubishi and Grays of Holbeach, each marking 45 years of dedication to the brand.

Throughout 2024, Mitsubishi Motors will continue to celebrate this significant anniversary through various activities on its social media channels and dealer events. A highlight of the year's celebrations will be the 50th Anniversary Rally on 21 September. This event will bring together Mitsubishi owners and enthusiasts from across the UK for a journey starting from the brand's UK headquarters, through the scenic Cotswolds, and concluding at Badminton House in Gloucestershire. This location is notably linked to the brand through the Badminton Horse Trials, a former key partner.

Additionally, from 8-10 November, Mitsubishi Motors plans to showcase at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham. This exhibition will feature classic Mitsubishi vehicles owned by Stephen Blackburn, former Main Board and Aftersales Director. This initiative underscores Mitsubishi's commitment to celebrating its legacy and connection with its customer base.

In September 2021, Mitsubishi Motors transitioned to an aftersales-focused business within the IM Group in response to its decision to cease new vehicle sales in the UK and parts of Europe. This shift emphasized supporting customers through its dedicated dealership network for servicing, parts, warranty repairs, and all other aftersales care.

The Colt Car Company, trading as Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, was established in 1974 through a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and David Blackburn. Initially operating from a modest four-room office in Dollar Street, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, the company experienced significant growth leading to a move to larger premises in Spitalgate Lane before constructing purpose-built premises at Watermoor in Cirencester in 1983.

This 50th anniversary not only marks a significant milestone for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK but also celebrates its enduring success and popularity among British customers. The planned events throughout 2024 aim to honor the brand's storied past while looking forward to continuing to serve its loyal customer base.
