Mitsubishi Motors Celebrates Strong Sales Increase In First Quarter Of 2024
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) has unveiled its first-quarter sales figures for 2024, showcasing a significant 35.7% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2023. This surge marks the company's most substantial quarterly sales since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020. The Outlander model led the charge as the brand's best-selling vehicle, witnessing a 41.1% increase year-over-year, achieving its second-highest quarterly sales ever. Additionally, the Eclipse Cross experienced a remarkable surge in popularity, with sales climbing by 120.3% compared to the previous year. The Mirage and Mirage G4 models also saw a collective sales increase of 49.7%, indicating a strong consumer preference for Mitsubishi's offerings based on their economy, efficiency, and value.
Amidst this sales growth, MMNA faces logistical challenges at the Port of Baltimore, a key entry point for its vehicles manufactured overseas. In response to ongoing salvage operations aimed at clearing shipping lanes, Mitsubishi has rerouted some shipments to alternative ports along the eastern seaboard. The company is actively monitoring the situation to minimize any potential inconvenience to customers and dealer partners.

In recognition of its efforts to retain customers within its battery-electric or hybrid vehicle segment, MMNA received the "Most Improved Alternative Powertrain Loyalty to Make" award from S&P Global Mobility for the calendar year 2023. Further cementing its reputation in the automotive industry, the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid was honored with the 2024 MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Award for Best Small Utility.
Enhancing the customer car-buying experience, MMNA introduced ClickShop 2.0, an innovative digital platform that integrates Mitsubishi Motors' Tier-1 and dealer partner's Tier-3 websites with dealer showrooms. This initiative is designed to streamline the shopping process, potentially reducing the time required to purchase a new vehicle by up to 70%.
The detailed sales figures for individual models in the first quarter of 2024 are as follows: Mirage achieved sales of 5,003 units; Outlander Sport recorded 4,569 units; Outlander led with 13,846 units; Outlander Plug-in Hybrid sold 1,522 units; and Eclipse Cross reached 3,463 units. The combined total sales for all models stood at 28,403 units.
Looking towards a sustainable future, MMNA's parent company, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, has committed to achieving carbon neutrality. The corporation has set ambitious targets including a 40% reduction in vehicle CO2 emissions and a 50% reduction in operational CO2 emissions by 2030. Furthermore, it aims for global sales of electrified vehicles to constitute 50% by 2030 and reach 100% by 2035.
This comprehensive performance and strategic foresight underscore Mitsubishi Motors North America's resilience and adaptability in a competitive market while highlighting its commitment to sustainability and customer satisfaction.
