Mattel Launches Hot Wheels Flippin Fast For Inclusive, Open-Ended Play

In a significant move ahead of Autism Acceptance Month in April 2024, Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) has unveiled the Hot Wheels Flippin Fast die-cast vehicle. This new addition to the Hot Wheels lineup is designed to foster an inclusive play experience for children, including those on the autism spectrum. The Flippin Fast die-cast stands out for its versatile design, inspired by fidget toys, which allows children to engage in play by rolling, flipping, and spinning the car in various directions.

Understanding the importance of inclusive play, Mattel collaborated with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN), a nonprofit organization led by individuals on the autism spectrum. This partnership aimed to ensure that the Flippin Fast die-cast meets the diverse needs of all children, providing a soothing and sensory play experience that is often beneficial for autistic individuals.

Hot Wheels' New Inclusive Toy

Zoe Gross, Director of Advocacy at ASAN, expressed enthusiasm for Mattel's initiative, highlighting how it respects the unique ways autistic children engage in play. Gross emphasized that there is no "wrong" way to play with this toy, promoting self-regulation and self-expression among children.

Ted Wu, Vice President and Global Head of Design for Vehicles at Mattel, reiterated the company's commitment to listening to consumer feedback and incorporating it into their products. Wu stated that the Flippin Fast die-cast is designed to offer endless possibilities for play without any restrictions.

Mattel's collaboration with ASAN began with the introduction of Bruno, the first-ever Thomas & Friends character with autism, in September 2022. This partnership underscores Mattel's ongoing efforts to make its product offerings more accessible and inclusive.

The Hot Wheels Flippin Fast die-cast is now available at retailers nationwide for $1.25 SRP, positioned alongside other beloved Hot Wheels toys. This launch not only enriches Mattel's diverse portfolio of toys but also aligns with its mission to engage consumers through meaningful and inclusive products.
