Maserati Clinches One-Two Victory At GT2 European Series Spa Round

Maserati celebrated a triumphant return to Spa-Francorchamps for the third round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli, coinciding with the 24 Hours of Spa weekend.

The three Maserati GT2s shone on Friday, securing a one-two finish in Race 1, led LP Racing's number car driven by Leonardo Gorini Carlo Tamburini. Their teammate Philippe Prette took the top spot in the Am class, while Alexandre Leroy TFT Racing team finished second in same class (fifth overall). In Race 2, Leroy the third spot on the podium for his class.

Qualifying and Race 1 Highlights

In qualifying for Race 1, Maseratis secured the top three positions, with Leroy earning his first pole position of the season. Despite initially maintaining his lead, Leroy's number 24 car eventually conceded to Gorini's number 1 Maserati GT2. After taking over from Gorini, Tamburini made an error at Les Combes but still managed to stay ahead of Prette. Tamburini crossed the finish line first, followed by Prette just 2.8 seconds later, marking Maserati's one-two finish and Prette's third Am class win this year.

Race 2 Recap

During Saturday morning's second race, Prette suffered a puncture early on that affected his performance. Tamburini started strong but fell to eighth place after contact with another driver. Gorini took over from Tamburini but was also forced to pit due to a puncture; he ultimately finished tenth. Meanwhile, Leroy maintained a consistent pace and finished sixth overall and third in the Am class.

The fourth round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli is set to take place in Hockenheim, Germany from July 19th to 21st. Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse, expressed satisfaction with Maserati GT2's continued success despite some misfortune in Race 2. He emphasized that Maserati's racing heritage is evident across their entire range of cars and looks forward to competing in Hockenheim for the next round of the series.
