Lingnan University Unveils LingnanVerse 2.0 BETA To Engage Students Globally
In a pioneering move to enhance its global outreach and attract a diverse pool of applicants, Lingnan University in Hong Kong SAR has unveiled LingnanVerse 2.0 BETA. This innovative platform, launched on 18 March, marks the institution as the first in Hong Kong to leverage the metaverse for undergraduate admissions. With the anticipated doubling of the admission quota for non-local students to 40 per cent in the 2024/25 academic year, the university is set to welcome a significant increase in international applications.
LingnanVerse 2.0 BETA offers a virtual replication of the Tuen Mun campus, breaking through traditional barriers of geography and time. Prospective students and their families can explore the campus at their convenience from anywhere in the world, accessing up-to-date admissions information and engaging with the university's rich cultural heritage. Established in 1888, Lingnan University aims to position itself as a leading international research-intensive liberal arts institution in the digital era.

Prof Lau Chi-pang, Associate Vice-President (Academic Affairs and External Relations) at Lingnan University, highlighted that this digital initiative aligns with global trends towards digitalisation and sustainable development. By reducing the reliance on printed promotional materials, LingnanVerse 2.0 BETA not only offers an eco-friendly alternative but also provides an immersive experience that showcases the university's welcoming atmosphere and comprehensive academic offerings.
The platform allows users to navigate through various faculties and schools, including the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Social Sciences, and School of Interdisciplinary Studies. A unique feature is the Skyway, offering a bird's eye view of the campus – a perspective unattainable in the real world. The addition of real-time communication features enhances interaction, allowing prospective students to engage directly with Lingnan's admissions team and departmental offices.
Ms Margaret Cheung Wai-fong, Registrar of Lingnan University, emphasized the importance of providing a detailed understanding of the university's learning and living environments to aid students in making informed decisions about their higher education journey. The introduction of faculty and staff into the Metaverse campus for Q&A sessions on hostels, exchanges, and internship opportunities further enriches this experience.
Lingnan University's innovative approach to student recruitment has not gone unnoticed. The institution was awarded the THE Awards Asia 2023's Student Recruitment Campaign of the Year prize last year. With plans to continuously upgrade LingnanVerse 2.0 BETA by adding more information and interactive features, games, and activities, Lingnan University is set to enhance its appeal to international students further.
For those interested in exploring what Lingnan University has to offer or seeking more information about undergraduate admissions, visiting LingnanVerse 2.0 BETA provides an engaging and informative first step into the university's vibrant community.
