Lexus Presents 'Time': A Glimpse Into Future Mobility At Milan Design Week 2024

Lexus has recently taken the wraps off an immersive art installation titled "Time" at Milan Design Week, showcasing a forward-looking perspective on next-generation mobility. This installation, inspired by the LF-ZC concept model, delves into the potential of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) through a blend of software and hardware innovations. The exhibition, featuring contributions from LEXUS DESIGN AWARD winner Hideki Yoshimoto/Tangent, musician Keiichiro Shibuya, and solar designer Marjan van Aubel, is a testament to Lexus' exploration of the future of mobility and its commitment to sustainability.

The "Time" installation is segmented into two distinct parts: "Beyond the Horizon" by Hideki Yoshimoto/Tangent and "8 Minutes and 20 Seconds" by Marjan van Aubel. The former is an interactive experience that imagines a future where mobility solutions are tailored to individual needs. It includes interactive sculptures emitting unique light patterns and a vast screen displaying changing horizons on Echizen washi paper. Accompanied by a sound piece from Keiichiro Shibuya, this section merges traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.

"8 Minutes and 20 Seconds" reflects Lexus' dedication to mobility innovation and carbon neutrality. It features Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) cells and motion sensors that activate in response to visitor movements. A life-sized model of the LF-ZC is showcased amidst holographic trees, with an interactive sun that alters color upon touch, surrounded by natural bamboo sounds. This part of the installation underscores Lexus' commitment to integrating sustainable energy sources within its vision for future mobility.

Lexus asserts that the concepts of experience and time are closely linked, emphasizing the importance of delivering unique experiences in an era marked by rapid technological evolution. The "Time" installation aims to investigate how software can adapt and grow in tandem with customer needs, offering personalized and immersive experiences. By marrying traditional artisanship with cutting-edge technology, Lexus not only showcases its dedication to luxury and sustainability but also its vision for the future of mobility.

The exhibition, which runs from April 16 to April 21 at the Art Point and Art Garden venues in Milan, Italy, presents a glimpse into the technological possibilities that could shape the future of transportation. Through collaborations with Hideki Yoshimoto/Tangent, Keiichiro Shibuya, and Marjan van Aubel, Lexus seeks to redefine luxury and push forward mobility innovation in harmony with achieving carbon neutrality.
