Adventurer Lexie Alford Circumnavigates Globe In All-Electric Ford Explorer
Adventurer Lexie Alford has recently set a new milestone by completing a global circumnavigation in an electric vehicle (EV), marking a significant achievement in the realm of sustainable travel. Utilizing the all-new electric Ford Explorer, Alford's journey spanned over 30,000 kilometers, traversing 27 countries across six continents. This feat not only showcases the durability and reliability of electric vehicles but also highlights Ford's latest contribution to the EV market, specifically tailored for European customers.
The Ford Explorer EV, now available to consumers, joins the ranks of Ford's electric lineup alongside the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit. Despite encountering various challenges such as power outages in Africa and sparse charging infrastructure in Chile's Atacama desert, the vehicle demonstrated its robust capabilities throughout Alford's expedition. The journey was completed using a pre-production model of the Explorer, equipped with diverse charging solutions to navigate the global terrain.

As Ford's inaugural passenger EV produced and designed in Europe, the all-electric Explorer is engineered with zero-tailpipe emissions and offers up to 602 km of driving range on a single charge. Customers have the option between single motor rear-wheel drive or dual motor all-wheel drive configurations, both powered by a lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt battery optimized for European climates. The vehicle supports rapid charging, achieving a 10-80% charge in roughly 26 minutes via up to 185 kW DC fast charging.
Ford has strategically partnered with the BlueOval Charge Network and IONITY to ensure Explorer drivers have access to convenient charging points. The Explorer is not just about performance; it also boasts a spacious interior with ample storage, heated driver's seat, voice-activated infotainment features, and advanced driver-assist technologies like adaptive cruise control and Clear Exit Warning for enhanced safety. Additional options include a panorama roof and a Driver Assist Pack that adds a hands-free tailgate and head-up display among other features.
The launch of the new all-electric Explorer marks a significant step in Ford's journey towards an all-electric and carbon-neutral future in Europe by 2035. Assembled at the Ford Cologne EV Centre following a $2 billion investment, this vehicle embodies Ford's commitment to bringing passion and emotion to electric vehicles in Europe. By offering customers exciting and capable options for their adventures, Ford aims to redefine expectations for electric travel.
