Lenovo Highlights AI's Business Value And Challenges At Tech World Hong Kong
A recent survey conducted by Lenovo during the Tech World Hong Kong event has shed light on the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) budgets and preparedness among chief information officers (CIOs) in Hong Kong. The findings reveal a promising outlook, with 95% of CIOs indicating that their AI budgets are meeting or exceeding expectations. Furthermore, a notable 44% of these executives reported having more than sufficient funds allocated for AI initiatives.
The survey also pinpointed generative AI as the most valuable form of artificial intelligence, with over half of the respondents (56%) acknowledging its superior business value compared to traditional or analytical AI. Despite these optimistic insights, the survey unveiled several challenges that need addressing for Hong Kong to fully leverage AI's potential. A mere 55% of CIOs feel fully prepared to scale AI operations, citing security, speed to market, and talent recruitment as significant hurdles.

Human capital is deemed essential by almost 90% of CIOs for scaling AI effectively. However, there seems to be a gap in readiness when it comes to ethical considerations and understanding of AI within organizations. Less than a quarter of CIOs believe their corporate policies on ethical IT use are prepared for AI, and only 35% think their organization's leadership has a robust grasp of AI and related technologies.
Ken Wong, President of Lenovo's Solutions and Services Group, emphasized the necessity for ongoing efforts in achieving measurable outcomes and ensuring responsible AI applications. Lenovo is actively working towards this goal by collaborating with educational institutions in Hong Kong to nurture the required talent for rapid AI innovation and scaling.
The company also shared its vision for an AI-powered future that benefits everyone at the event. This includes partnerships with local NGOs and Formula 1®, showcasing AI-driven solutions tailored to both individual and enterprise needs. Lenovo stressed its commitment to ethical AI usage and meaningful innovation.
Lenovo's initiatives such as the AI Professional Services Practice and the Lenovo AI Innovators Program were highlighted as key components in supporting customers from concept to results in their AI journey. The company also introduced new AI-powered solutions like Care-of-One for enhancing employee experience and productivity, the Lenovo Intelligent Sustainability Solutions Advisor for planning IT decisions with environmental impact in mind, and Cyber Resiliency as a Service to bolster IT security for businesses in Hong Kong.
In his concluding remarks, Ken Wong articulated Lenovo's future vision centered around creating a more inclusive, sustainable, and intelligent world through the application of AI technologies.
