Lake District Crowned UK’s Favourite Easter Road Trip Spot In New 2024 Survey
A recent survey conducted by JET, a leading fuel brand, has unveiled the preferred road trip destinations for Brits during the Easter weekend. The Lake District emerged as the top choice, with 28% of the 2,000 UK drivers surveyed expressing a desire to explore its glacial ribbon lakes and soaring mountain views. Following closely are the Yorkshire Dales and Jurassic Coast, securing 19% and 18% of the votes respectively. The survey, carried out online in March 2024, not only explored preferred destinations but also delved into cherished childhood memories associated with road trips, preferred car games, and opinions on who should claim the front seat.
The allure of the Lake District's natural beauty has captivated both the driving public and literary figures alike, making it the most sought-after destination for an Easter getaway. The Yorkshire Dales and Jurassic Coast also stood out for their unique landscapes, offering vast moors and valleys, and a champion coastal route respectively. Other notable mentions include The Cotswolds, Cheddar Gorge, and Snake Pass among the top ten destinations, highlighting the UK's diverse and picturesque landscapes ideal for road trips.

Road trips are synonymous with creating lasting memories, with 31% of respondents recalling 'being together as a family' as their fondest childhood memory. The excitement of 'falling asleep and waking up somewhere new', 'stopping for snacks at the service station', and 'car fun and games' were also among the top moments cherished by Brits. When it comes to keeping entertained on the road, 'i-Spy' emerged as the favourite car game, followed by 'Red Car-Yellow Car', 'Spot The Licence Plate', and 'The Quiet Game'.
Who Gets to Sit Up Front?
The survey also touched on the age-old debate of who should sit in the front seat. Almost half of the respondents (49%) believe that 'parents or the eldest' should have this privilege. Other considerations included 'the navigator', those prone to travel sickness, and a first-come-first-serve basis for claiming the coveted front seat.
Áine Corkery, Manager of UK Brand at Phillips 66 Limited, commented on the findings: "Road trips are just as much about the journey as they are the destination. It’s wonderful to see the UK’s sense of adventure through these results. As JET is committed to getting drivers back on the road safely, facilitating road trips full of memories is important to us – a sentiment clearly shared by the voting public."
The survey highlights not only the UK's favourite Easter road trip destinations but also underscores the importance of family bonding, adventure, and tradition in British culture. With such diverse landscapes to explore and a strong emphasis on creating memorable experiences, it's clear that road trips hold a special place in the hearts of Brits.
