Kuwait's Emir Appoints Sheikh Sabah As New Crown Prince

Kuwait's Emir His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has appointed Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah as the new Crown Prince, according to a decree reported by state news agency KUNA. The appointment, which took place on Saturday, was made official after thorough consideration of the constitution and relevant laws regarding the succession of the emirate.

The Emiri order references several key dates, including May 15, 2024, when Sheikh Sabah Khalid was named Prime Minister, and May 10, 2024, and May 12, 2024, related to previous decrees and the formation of the Cabinet. This comprehensive review underscores the legal and constitutional framework guiding the appointment.

The decree specifies in Article 1, "Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah shall be approved as Crown Prince." Article 2 mandates that the Prime Minister present this matter to the Council of Ministers to ensure the necessary constitutional measures are taken. Article 3 states that the order is effective immediately and will be published in the Official Gazette.

The formal announcement was made from Seif Palace, the administrative headquarters of the Kuwaiti government.
