Kia Achieves Record-Breaking Sales Quarter In The UK, Leads Electrified Vehicle Market

Kia UK has reported an outstanding performance in the first quarter of 2024, setting a new record for the brand in the UK market. With a total of 33,084 new vehicles sold, Kia has not only achieved its best-ever quarter but also secured a significant 6.1 per cent market share year-to-date. This achievement underscores the brand's growing popularity and the strong demand for its model lineup.

March was a particularly successful month for Kia, with 18,478 sales, positioning it as the fifth best-selling brand with a 5.8 per cent market share. The brand's electrified vehicles, including electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and hybrids, have played a crucial role in this success. With 16,315 electrified cars sold in Q1, Kia is now the second best-selling brand for electrified sales in the UK, with these models accounting for 49 per cent of all Kia UK sales so far in 2024.

The Kia Sportage led the charge with 13,632 units sold in Q1, making it the third best-selling car in the UK this year. The Sportage's global sales in March exceeded 53,000 units, with the UK contributing nearly 14 per cent to this total. Following closely behind was the Niro family, which includes both hybrid and fully electric models, with 5,816 sales recorded in Q1. The fully electric Niro EV emerged as Kia's best-selling fully electric model and the seventh best-selling EV in the UK year-to-date.

The Ceed family, comprising various body styles such as the five-door hatchback and Sportswagon estate, also showed strong performance with 4,828 units sold in Q1. This continued success is part of Kia's broader strategy to expand its presence in key segments and offer a diverse range of vehicles to meet consumer demand.

2024 has been a year of innovation and recognition for Kia. The brand introduced three 'Platform Beyond Vehicle' (PBV) concepts at CES in Las Vegas, marking its entry into the electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) market. Additionally, the Kia Academy opened its doors in Derby as a state-of-the-art technical training facility.

The Kia EV9 has been a standout model since its launch in January 2024, receiving multiple awards including 'UK Car of the Year 2024' and 'World Car of the Year'. With nearly 1,000 units sold in the UK since its introduction, the EV9 has quickly become a favourite among consumers seeking a fully electric seven-seat SUV.

This record-breaking quarter follows a successful 2023 for Kia UK, which saw 107,765 cars sold - marking the best sales year in the brand's history and the second consecutive year of over 100,000 sales. Kia's consistent performance highlights its commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction.
