ITC Selects Hexagon's HxGN EAM For Australia's Largest Electric Rail Terminal
Hexagon’s asset management solution HxGN EAM, in collaboration with The APP Group, has been selected by Intermodal Terminal Company (ITC) for the Somerton Intermodal Terminal project. Located in Melbourne's outer suburbs, this 45-hectare terminal is set to become Australia’s largest and first fully electric intermodal rail terminal.
Upon completion, the Somerton Intermodal Terminal will handle over one million 20-foot equivalents (TEU) annually. It will be the closest terminal to Melbourne capable of accommodating double-stacked 1,800-metre trains. The terminal aims to eliminate up to 500,000 truck trips from Melbourne’s roads, reducing carbon emissions by up to 189,000 tonnes.

HxGN EAM is designed to improve productivity and extend asset lifecycles. It will manage the entire asset portfolio within the Somerton Intermodal Terminal project. This includes internal roads and gates, truck and container movements, container washing, fumigation facilities, and a 24x7 control centre overseeing lighting, technology, and rail network control.
