Isabelle Riederer Joins Women's Worldwide Car Of The Year Jury, Enhancing Its Global Presence
In a significant move that underscores the growing influence of women in the automotive sector, the Women's Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) has welcomed Swiss journalist Isabelle Riederer to its exclusive jury. This appointment marks a notable expansion for WWCOTY, which prides itself on being the only car awards globally with a panel composed entirely of female motoring journalists. Now boasting 76 judges from 53 countries, the organization continues to amplify women's voices in an industry historically dominated by men.
Isabelle Riederer, a distinguished figure in Swiss automotive journalism, brings a wealth of experience to the WWCOTY jury. Her contributions span several prominent publications including 20 Minuten, Auto Bild Schweiz, AUTO&Wirtschaft, Electric WOW, and AboutFleet. Since beginning her career at A&W in 2014, Riederer has ascended from editor to editor-in-chief of AUTO&Wirtschaft and later founded Erste Sahne Content GmbH. Her agency supports Swiss car importers with content creation and communication strategies, showcasing her multifaceted expertise in the field.

Riederer's enthusiasm for the automotive industry is palpable. "The automotive industry has changed rapidly in the last five years and developments are continuing, but one thing remains: the emotions! That's what makes it so exciting for me as a journalist to write about it," she stated. Her concern for the representation of women in this sector is evident. She highlights significant progress but acknowledges that there is still much work to be done to ensure women's influence is recognized as standard rather than exceptional.
Switzerland presents an intriguing case study in automotive preferences and purchasing power. The country boasts a high proportion of 4x4 and high-powered vehicles, with Swiss consumers showing a marked preference for SUVs and 4x4s despite the global shift towards electromobility. In 2023 alone, Switzerland registered 255,918 new vehicles. The nation also holds the distinction of having the highest Porsche rate globally, alongside a significant appetite for supercars and hypercars. This penchant for luxury and high-performance vehicles is further evidenced by manufacturers' tendency to launch new models in Switzerland exclusively in their highest equipment variants.
The Women's Worldwide Car of the Year was established in 2009 by New Zealand motoring journalist Sandy Myhre. With Marta García serving as Executive President and Myhre as Honorary President, WWCOTY aims not only to recognize the best cars of the year but also to elevate women's roles within the automotive industry. The award's voting criteria mirror those any driver might consider when choosing a vehicle—safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits, and environmental impact among them. However, WWCOTY's mission extends beyond these awards; it seeks to ensure women's perspectives are heard worldwide, advocating for mobility as a gateway to personal and professional opportunities for women everywhere.
Isabelle Riederer's inclusion in this prestigious jury is more than an individual achievement; it symbolizes ongoing efforts to diversify voices in automotive journalism and beyond. As WWCOTY continues to grow and represent women across the globe, its impact on the industry and on societal perceptions of women in motoring cannot be underestimated.
