Spring 2024 Pavement Improvement Program Set For Indiana Toll Road
In a significant move to enhance travel conditions, ITR Concession Co. LLC (ITRCC), the entity overseeing the Indiana Toll Road (ITR), has announced its comprehensive schedule for the upcoming Spring 2024 Pavement Rehabilitation Mill and Fill Project. This initiative aims to address and improve pavement conditions along critical segments of the ITR, specifically targeting areas between mile markers 10 - 20 on the western segment and mile markers 123 - 157 on the eastern segment. These sections were notably affected by the harsh winter freeze/thaw cycle experienced in early 2024.
Slated to begin in early May, the project is ambitiously set to conclude most of its operations before the Memorial Day holiday, ensuring minimal disruption during a peak travel season. In a strategic effort to further mitigate inconvenience to motorists, construction activities are planned during off-peak hours, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Eastern Time. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant, adhere to construction signage, and observe reduced speed limits through the construction zones.

Rick Fedder, Chief Operating Officer of ITRCC, emphasized the organization's commitment to maintaining high-quality pavement conditions while striving to minimize the impact on travelers. "Whilst road construction is necessary to ensure that our pavement conditions meet customer expectations, we also look to execute the work in a manner that minimizes motorist disruption and delays," Fedder stated.
Beyond the spring project, ITRCC has outlined plans for additional pavement and bridge rehabilitation efforts within these regions. These subsequent projects are currently in the design phase, with completion anticipated in late 2024 and into 2025.
Operational since 2006 under the management of ITR Concession Company LLC (ITRCC), the Indiana Toll Road stretches over 157 miles across northern Indiana. It serves as a crucial connector between Chicago and the Eastern Seaboard, forming an integral part of Interstate 80/90. The toll road is not only vital for regional connectivity but also plays a significant role in facilitating transportation across the Midwest. ITRCC's responsibilities, as outlined in their agreement with the Indiana Finance Authority, include construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of this key infrastructure asset.
For travelers seeking real-time traffic and construction updates, ITRCC encourages visiting their official website or following their social media channels on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). These platforms provide timely information to assist motorists in planning their journeys effectively.
This initiative by ITRCC underscores a proactive approach towards infrastructure maintenance and improvement, ensuring that the Indiana Toll Road continues to serve as a reliable route for millions of travelers while accommodating future transportation demands.
