Kirti Vardhan Singh Appointed As India's New Point Person For Gulf Affairs
India's Minister of State, Kirti Vardhan Singh, has been appointed as the new point person for the Gulf by India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar.
This comes after the formation of India's new Council of Ministers on June 9, following elections to the Lok Sabha, Parliament's lower house. Singh assumed his role as Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on June 11 and was given charge of the Gulf by Dr. Jaishankar, WAM reported.
Singh will also be responsible for consular, passports, and visa work, as well as dealing with Overseas Indian Affairs. These areas are of significant interest in the Gulf due to the large Indian diaspora in the GCC countries.
India's MEA has a combined division for consular, passports and visas, and Overseas Indian Affairs. Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi will continue to serve as the senior-most civil servant assisting Singh in these tasks.
