First Black Wellness Week Unites Washington For Holistic Community Health
Elevate Black Wellness, an organization committed to enhancing the well-being of Black communities in Washington state, recently celebrated the successful completion of the first-ever Black Wellness Week from April 15-19, 2024. This initiative, spearheaded by co-founders Keith and Christina Blocker, received official recognition through a proclamation by Governor Jay Inslee and garnered support from various cities and counties across the state. The event underscored the importance of community collaboration in advancing health equity.
The week was marked by celebrations in cities including Bremerton, Des Moines, Everett, Federal Way, Lakewood, Olympia, University Place, Tukwila, and Tacoma, as well as in King County and Snohomish County. These proclamations highlighted the collective effort to honor and promote wellness within Black communities. Organizations across Washington state hosted events to commemorate Black Wellness Week, showcasing a united front in the pursuit of health equity.

"The inaugural Black Wellness Week signifies a pivotal moment in our journey to support holistic wellness among Black communities," expressed Keith Blocker. Christina Blocker added, "We are delighted by the enthusiastic participation of organizations statewide in this celebration, which reflects our shared commitment to health equity."
Since its establishment in 2023, Elevate Black Wellness has made significant strides in impacting the lives of Black residents in Washington. The organization has distributed over 60,200 health and wellness resources and reached more than 24,000 individuals through its digital platforms. Its initiatives, including a microgrants program, have played a crucial role in supporting the community's diverse needs.
Elevate Black Wellness focuses on promoting comprehensive wellness that encompasses physical, mental, spiritual, and economic health. By providing culturally relevant programs and resources tailored to the unique challenges faced by Black individuals and families, the organization fosters a culture of joy, healing, and resilience.
The Blockers emphasized the importance of community support in achieving their goals. "The success of Black Wellness Week and our ongoing efforts would not be possible without our community partners," they stated. They encourage more individuals and organizations to join their movement towards creating meaningful change.
