Ilmor And GM Marine To Showcase At Detroit Grand Prix 2024 With Riveting Dock Experience
Ilmor Engineering and GM Marine are set to make a return to the Detroit riverfront for the 2024 Detroit Grand Prix. This year’s event will feature the Ilmor Dock Experience, presented in collaboration with GM Marine. The display will be located on the docks of the Detroit Wayne County Port Authority (DWCPA), a key gateway to Midwest and International Markets.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore various boats powered by Ilmor, including an Aviara AV36 and AV40, as well as a MasterCraft X24 and X26. Additionally, some of Ilmor’s newest marine engines, derived from the GM Marine LT4 engine block, will be showcased. A new feature this year is a large LED wall facing south towards the river, which will broadcast race coverage for passing boats.

The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, presented by Lear, returns to Detroit’s streets on Sunday, June 2. This marks the first time since 1991 that the race will be held within the city. The 1.7-mile street circuit includes a long straight track on Jefferson Avenue and nine challenging turns along Atwater Street, Bates Street, St. Antoine, Franklin Street, and Rivard.
Mike Lindberg, Vice President of Ilmor Marine, expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Detroit to support Team Chevy. "The previous year’s race was a triumph for both IndyCar and the city of Detroit. We are eager to navigate the Detroit River, alongside GM Marine, Aviara, and MasterCraft Boats, to demonstrate our state-of-the-art technology to the modern boating enthusiast," he said.
GM Marine, a long-time supplier to Ilmor, is also excited about this year’s event. Having GM Marine engines on display within the Ilmor experience highlights their enduring relationship. Tony Brower, Director of GM Powered Solutions Sales and Engineering, stated, "The Detroit Grand Prix highlights the power of high-performance engineering, including this unique experience with Ilmor featuring GM Marine engines on the Detroit River."
The race activities will commence on Friday morning, May 31st, and continue throughout the weekend until Sunday afternoon when the winner is crowned. Media representatives are invited to visit the event space over the weekend for guided tours and boat rides offering views of the Detroit Skyline and Grand Prix setup.
