IATA And Star Alliance Unveil Timatic AutoCheck For Enhanced Travel
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) alongside Star Alliance, has embarked on a significant collaboration to refine the landscape of travel compliance solutions. This partnership heralds the adoption of Timatic AutoCheck by Star Alliance's 26-member airlines. Timatic AutoCheck, heralded as the next-generation travel documentation and verification system, is set to support a shift towards contactless travel experiences. This innovative platform promises to streamline and automate the document checking process, offering tailored instructions for each passenger, thus enhancing the overall travel experience.
With forecasts indicating that passenger traffic will double by the year 2040, the importance of optimizing and enhancing airport processes has never been more pressing. The automation of passengers' travel documentation verification is pinpointed as a critical area for improvement. The implementation of Timatic AutoCheck is poised to be a pivotal factor in facilitating the transition towards streamlined, contactless travel. Star Alliance anticipates the system will annually review the travel documents of more than 340 million travelers.

Insights from the Global Passenger Survey (GPS)
Findings from IATA's most recent Global Passenger Survey (GPS) shed light on travelers' attitudes towards immigration requirements and digital visa processes. The survey revealed that 36% of travelers have been deterred from visiting certain destinations due to complex immigration requirements, with 49% citing process complexity as the main deterrent. Additionally, a significant majority, 66%, expressed a preference for obtaining visas online prior to travel, highlighting the demand for digital and convenient visa application processes.
Moreover, the survey indicated a growing willingness among travelers to share their immigration information in advance to expedite airport arrival procedures, with 87% of respondents open to this idea—an increase from 83% in 2022. This willingness aligns with the capabilities of Timatic AutoCheck, which offers a customer-friendly online solution for verifying compliance with immigration requirements before heading to the airport.
