Hyundai Canada Reports Record EV Sales And Strong March Performance In 2024

In a notable surge, Hyundai Canada has announced a significant increase in its March sales, reaching 11,835 units, marking a 19 per cent rise compared to the same period last year. Leading the charge in popularity are the KONA and TUCSON models, with sales of 3,504 and 2,666 units respectively. This growth is not just confined to traditional vehicles; Hyundai's electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrids have seen a remarkable uptick. In March alone, these eco-friendly options constituted 29 per cent of the total sales volume, translating to 3,446 units—a 39 per cent increase from March 2023.

The electrified variants of TUCSON and KONA were the top sellers in this category, with 1,390 and 940 units sold respectively. The IONIQ 5 also showcased impressive performance with 757 deliveries, marking a 57 per cent increase year-over-year. Additionally, the IONIQ 6 made its mark with 158 units sold. Highlighting this success, Hyundai Canada reported its best-ever quarter in electric vehicle sales, with a staggering 90 per cent year-over-year increase, totaling 4,629 units of fully electric vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2024.

Hyundai Canada's Record EV Sales in 2024

Steve Flamand, executive director of sales and digital strategy at Hyundai Canada, commented on the achievement. "Hyundai was among the first major manufacturers to take the electric transition seriously by launching the IONIQ in 2017," he stated. This strategic move has enabled Hyundai to offer a diverse and highly competitive range of electrified vehicles today.

Overall, Hyundai Canada sold 8,285 units of electrified vehicles during the first three months of 2024. This means that electrified vehicles represented 28.5 per cent of Hyundai's total sales in Canada for this quarter, a significant increase from the 20.8 per cent share during the same period last year.

Hyundai's momentum was further underscored by its activities in March. The company unveiled an enhanced version of the Tucson SUV at the New York International Auto Show, set for release in 2025. Additionally, the world witnessed the debut of the enhanced Hyundai Santa Cruz at the same event. Hyundai also announced Canadian pricing for its IONIQ 5 N model—the N performance brand's first fully-electric offering.

Recognition for Hyundai Auto Canada's workplace culture and diversity initiatives was also highlighted. The company was named among the 2024 Best Workplaces for Women by MediaCorp and recognized as a Top Employer for Diversity. Furthermore, Hyundai Auto Canada has announced a partnership with the Professional Women's Hockey League and raised over $64,000 through its annual 360ºExperience for Unhoused Youth.

Established in 1983 and headquartered in Markham, Ontario, Hyundai Auto Canada was Hyundai Motor Company's first subsidiary outside Korea. With over 250 dealerships across Canada today, Hyundai continues to offer a technology-rich lineup of cars, SUVs, and electrified vehicles to Canadian consumers. The company's commitment to diversity and community engagement remains strong through various CSR initiatives and partnerships.
