Huanghua Port Fuels Economic Surge In Hebei With Record Cargo Throughput
North China's Hebei Province has reported a 5.5 percent GDP growth in 2023 and 5.6 percent in the first quarter of this year, according to Governor Wang Zhengpu at a recent press conference held by the State Council Information Office. Wang highlighted the steady increase in the province's main economic indicators, attributing the success to various regional developments.
Cangzhou has played a significant role in Hebei's economic progress. The region has leveraged its unique assets, including dry-alkali tolerant wheat, ancient canals, intangible cultural heritage martial arts, and Huanghua Port. These elements have collectively contributed to the province's economic growth.

On April 20, a ship carrying over 10,000 tons of palm kernel meal docked at the Jihai Port Terminal of Huanghua Port. This event marked the first warehousing operation completed by the bonded warehouse, signifying its formal operation. The public bonded warehouse at Huanghua Port spans 5,684 square meters and passed its acceptance inspection in March 2024.
The bonded warehouse is designed to store goods that have not yet completed customs procedures, offering services that ease financial pressures on enterprises, improve customs clearance efficiency, and reduce related costs. This initiative aims to promote regional open economic development.
Expansion of Trade Routes
In recent years, Huanghua Port has expanded both domestic and international trade routes. It has streamlined domestic transportation channels such as "North Coal Transportation to the South" and "Northern Material Transportation to the South." Strategically located at Bohai Bay, Huanghua Port serves areas including Xiongan New Area, central and southern Hebei, and regions like Shandong, Henan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia.
Strategic Partnerships
On April 8, Cangzhou Port Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Xiongan Comprehensive Bonded Zone Construction and Development Co., Ltd. This agreement led to the listing of the Cangzhou Huanghua Port-Xiongan New Area Inland Port. To date, Huanghua Port has listed 12 inland ports within its hinterland.
Global Trade Relations
Huanghua Port has established itself as the world's first bulk cargo port with full-process intelligence. Its labor productivity and per capita efficiency are among the highest in the country. The port maintains trade relations with over 200 ports in more than 50 countries and regions worldwide, including Australia, India, Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brazil.
Record Throughput
In 2023, Huanghua Port achieved a full-year throughput of 330 million tons, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.99 percent. This figure represents a record high for the port, which has exceeded 300 million tons for four consecutive years. The container throughput for 2023 was 623,600 TEUs.
In the first quarter of 2024 alone, Huanghua Port completed cargo throughput of 88 million tons—a year-on-year increase of 11.53 percent. This growth rate is 5.71 percentage points higher than the same period last year and ranks first in the province.
