Hong Kong Engineers Week Carnival 2024 Unveils At West Kowloon
The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) has recently inaugurated the Hong Kong Engineers Week Carnival, a vibrant three-day event designed to foster public engagement with the engineering sector. The grand opening, held at Harbourside Lawn within the West Kowloon Cultural District, saw notable figures such as Ms Bernadette LINN Hon Ho, Secretary for Development, Mr YE Shuiqiu from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Ir Ricky LAU Chun Kit, Permanent Secretary for Development, gracing the occasion.
Under the banner "Be the Change," the Carnival boasts over 45 booths and interactive games. These setups allow HKIE alongside its partners and sponsors to disseminate engineering knowledge and showcase technological advancements. The event is accessible to all without any charge and encompasses competitions, performances, and a plethora of interactive activities aimed at engaging attendees.

During her address, Ms LINN Hon Ho underscored the significance of collaboration, attracting new talent, innovation, and contributing towards national development within the engineering domain. She voiced her aspirations for working alongside engineering professionals to forge a sustainable future and enhance national welfare. Echoing this sentiment, Ir Dr Barry LEE Chi Hong, President of HKIE, emphasized the Carnival's role in elevating public awareness about engineers' societal contributions and sparking interest in engineering among the youth.
The Carnival features an array of interactive booths including virtual reality games and aircraft models to ignite interest in aviation engineering. It also provides photo booths for attendees to capture memories of their experience. A highlight of the event is the inaugural "Engineer Alliance" competition that underscores HKIE's dedication to professional excellence and engineering advancements. The competition's finalists were introduced during the opening ceremony and are set to face off in two challenging rounds before the winner is declared on March 3rd.
In conjunction with the Carnival, HKIE has also organized educational contests such as the "Our Dream City" Primary Student Design Contest and the "Our Future Engineers" Secondary Student Quiz Contest. These competitions aim to engage younger audiences by showcasing models and presentations by participating teams and hosting a quiz contest open to public viewing.
The Hong Kong Engineers Week Carnival serves as a platform to enhance public understanding and interest in engineering. Through its diverse range of activities, competitions, and exhibits, it highlights engineers' pivotal role in societal development and aims to inspire future generations towards careers in engineering. The event is open to everyone free of charge until March 3rd, 2024.
